Alps & Amici Choc Orange Almond Cake

Here is a recipe for our super popular Choc Orange Almond Cake! Yes, we are letting you in on our little secret! This is one of our most popular cakes here at Alps and you can now bake it at home. Using whole oranges, you will get the benefit of all the orange so get baking while the oranges are in season and super delicious! (P.S. it is also Gluten Free, for all you GF people out there – we never forget you!)

You’ll need:

  • 2 oranges
  • 6 eggs
  • 250g almond meal
  • 250g sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 50g cocoa powder

Here’s what to do:

  • Boil oranges for 2 hours, cut open and remove the pips. Allow to cool and then blend to a smooth orange paste.
  • In a separate mixer, cream eggs and sugar until light and creamy and mixture has doubled in volume.
  • Combine almond meal and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  • Add all ingredients together and combine, pour mixture into a lined round 9” cake tin
  • Bake at 180 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • Cool on a wire rack in the tin.

We finish our Choc Orange Almond Cake off with a beautiful smooth Italian buttercream but you could keep it plain or finish it with your favourite icing or topping.
